Breathecoat Textured Paint is a hardwearing,
solvent-free, fire-retardant, environment, people and VOC-free covering with
colour pigment as an inherent part of the product. This functional,
architectural cement-based product adheres well; without an undercoat or
primer, to plaster, bagged or raw cement or clay brick surfaces or rough wood
or cardboard. It is not only a surface coating but penetrates into the
substrate and forms a single entity. It has excellent hiding power because of
its thick coating and outstanding decorative effects.
Prevents run away fires
in informal settlements.
Recommendation

It is suitable for
domestic, commercial and industrial environments. It is extremely hardwearing
due to the silicate content.

Mixing instructions
Put 2 – 2, 2ℓ of clean
potable water in a 10ℓ plastic bucket and mix the dry powder slowly into the
water whilst continuously stirring. The best results are achieved by using a
mixing blade (obtainable at Breathecoat) clamped in an electric hand drill.
This insures a uniform smooth and lump free mix. Clean brushes and containers
with water.
Preparation:
Clean surface area thoroughly
and make sure it is free of dust or loose debris.
Fix or fill in all holes, cracks etc (refer to our Crack Super Repair Bond Data
Sheet)
Application:
Cover windows, doors and light fittings
with masking tape and paper and put drop sheets on floor.
Use a block-brush or Builders Brush and
apply the Breathecoat Textured Paint onto the wall substrate, making
strokes in vertical direction only. Finish the wall from top to bottom while
the paint is still wet, in vertical sections, with block-brush in one single
stroke to avoid joints.
Working from corner to corner, finish a
complete wall area, without stopping, keeping a wet edge.
On very hot (30°C and above),
windy days, pre-wet exterior walls when applying Breathecoat Textured Paint
only to saturate the wall.
NB:
Stir the contents of the 10L bucket during application regularly (every 2
minutes) to avoid the coarse aggregate settling.
Optional:
Sealant: spray, roll or brush on for high dirt areas
Stain resistant, solvent free sealants are available in matt or sheen.
Apply two coats.
Additional Info:
Due to the great thickness of the coating, touching up is difficult. A whole panel might have to be repainted.
General Info:
Other products are available
for alternative finishes (wall: ultra smooth, smooth, Stucco finish.) and other
surfaces (wood, metal, roof, flooring, etc.).
Notification:
Breathecoat Textured Paint is cementitiousand if applied on exterior surfaces, specifically the darker colours,
rain might cause efflorescence (a white powdery residue, due to the water
washing the non-soluble salts from the paint layer, noticeable on the darker
colours ). Efflorescence might take 6 months to 9 months to wash out completely
before it will start fading away. Four weeks after application, if
efflorescence occurs, a 10% solution of white vinegar can be used to wash it or
clean it.
To avoid efflorescence:
- Apply a thin mist
spray onto the newly painted surface, spraying from bottom to top, a day after paint application. Repeat one day later.
This will cure the paint quicker. - Apply Breathecoat
Acrylic instead.
Cementitious Paints take 28
days to reach full cure. After 28 days it will reach maximum strengths and wash
ability.
Prominent variation in the
substrate might show through on the surface of the paint as a colour variation.
Substrates must be thoroughly prepared.
